I was called recently to shoot some promo shots for the band Still Small Voice. Now this band which was formed back in 2001 hasn’t played a show with the original line up for over six years. That’s all about to change on December 16th, when they plug in their guitars and rock out at Pittsburgh’s Hard Rock Cafe. Three original members: Justin Sellers, Tim Fitzgerald and Vic Seminora have added Billy Schneider to the mix, and from what I’m told they sound better than ever.
I looked for a few locations for the shoot and came up with a railroad tunnel in town. I’m not a big fan of band photos in front of brick walls or on railroad tracks. But what about a band photo in front of a brick wall AND on railroad tracks? I thought it might be a neat idea. So we did some shots near the entrance of the tunnel and immediately decided to head deeper into the damp darkness.
I know from prior experience (which we can’t tell my Mom about) that if you go deep enough into this particular tunnel, you cannot see either end due to it’s curvature. While we didn’t get quite that far, we were still able to get far enough that I needed to pop two off-camera flashes at almost full power to get the shots we wanted. I was even using a small flashlight to get my focus point.
Here’s a few of the shots from inside the tunnel
And here are a few shots from a second location near the woods….
If you are going to be anywhere near Pittsburgh on December 16th, you have to try to make it out to the Hard Rock Cafe to see this band. It should be one heck of a show….
