Steel Panther at Stage AE

The glam-metal band Steel Panther roared into town and rocked the crowd at Pittsburgh’s best live music venue – Stage AE. It had been a few months since I shot a show at Stage AE and I was excited to get back into the pit. There were seven or eight photographers in what seemed to be a slightly narrower than usual pit. A few familiar faces as well as a few new ones. We all managed to navigate around each other without anyone getting stepped on or knocked over 😉

The band put on a great show with their usual set full of high-energy music as well as some R to NC-17 humor. As for the photography – the lighting was a nice mix of front and back lighting with some really nice color mixing. And as you can see in the photo above, they had the fog machine spewing clouds throughout their set. I was able to keep the shutter speeds above 1/100th while at the same time keeping the ISO settings at or below 1250 for most of the allotted 3 songs.

Beautiful photos, Rich. Next time I go there, I have to remember my platform shoes. That stage is a little high for short people like me!

Thank you Linda… For higher stages I would suggest a longer lens and shooting from the sides. That will eliminate the look of the performer(s) towering above you a little bit.
