Carnival of Madness: Evanescence

As the sun set behind Heinz Field, the stage lights came up and out came Amy Lee and her band Evanescence. I shot the first three songs as usual and had to leave shortly after. It was a much better experience than the last time I saw them play here in Pittsburgh (Nick’s Fat City  2/25/2003). They definitely belong in front of thousands of fans instead of the 600 that packed into Nick’s over nine years ago.

The lighting was brutal as I had been warned by Allen Ross Thomas, an amazing concert photographer from Atlanta, GA. He had shot them previously and pretty much said “Good Luck” to me the night before the show. The stage was doused in vivid blue LED lighting with an occasional BLAST of equally vivid red light. You’ll hear me complain now and again about one thing or another but the truth is – any time spent behind my camera is way more enjoyable than time spent at a desk.

Here’s the shots from the show . . .

Come back tomorrow to see the shots of Chevelle
